Speed determines how often your Dinoz gets to attack in a fight, while initiative determines how likely it is to attack first. More speed means that your Dinoz might hit more than once before the enemy gets to do anything. You can increase your Dinoz speed by choosing certain skills, such as Celerity. Most of the speed improvements are found in the Lightning skills tree.
From the Horse's Mouth
- Each fighter has a value of time. The fighter with the smallest value performs an attack, then we add 10 / Speed at the time. So a fighter with 2.0 speed in attack twice more than 1.0 as fighting with each action will cost him 5 points of time instead of 10.
The Initiative will reduce the value of time at the beginning of combat. It therefore allows both to perform the first action, but also saves time over other fighters: a 10 DINOZE initiative with fighting a DINOZE with -10 will be almost certain to carry out two attacks before the other (since 20 points separate the time).
---The DinoRPG team
Initiative is an attribute represented by a (hidden) number that determines who attacks first in a fight. The combatant with higher initiative attacks first. When initiative is equal for two combatants, the first attacker is randomly picked.
Speed determines the "time" an attack takes: after each attack, 10 / speed is added to the time (which was set at the beginning by subtracting the Initiative from 0). The combatant with lowest total time value attacks next at each step of combat.
Dinoz "A" fights dinoz "B" (or a creature); neither has initiative or speed skills.
